Sandustry Mods Guide for Early Access
Use current Sandustry mods and maps through Steam Workshop and the Mods branch, while avoiding incompatible Demo-era FluxLoader instructions.
Sandustry supports mods. For the current Steam Early Access build, use the official Sandustry Workshop and select Steam’s Mods branch. FluxLoader belongs to the older Demo ecosystem.
Using Steam Workshop Mods
The current flow has two separate parts:
- Browse and subscribe to content in the Sandustry Workshop.
- Follow the official FAQ and select the game’s Mods branch in Steam.
Subscribing downloads the Workshop item; choosing the branch enables the current mod-capable game setup. Confirm that each item identifies itself as compatible with the Early Access build rather than the Demo.
Mods vs Custom Maps
The Workshop explicitly covers both “Mods and maps.” A custom map changes the world or starting scenario, while other mods may alter visuals, add buildings, or add processes that connect to production chains.
The Steam store describes Sandustry as built for modding and mentions visual changes, handmade maps, new buildings, and production processes. It also refers to dedicated modding tools, but current first-party sources do not provide a separate named download or complete public tool manual.
Why FluxLoader Is Demo-Era
The official pinned FAQ places FluxLoader in the old Demo context and points Early Access players to Workshop plus the Mods branch. A FluxLoader directory or old video does not establish compatibility with the August 2026 build.
GOG and Microsoft Store
GOG and Microsoft Store describe Sandustry as mod-friendly, but Steam Workshop subscriptions and Steam branch selection are Steam-specific steps. Do not copy them to another store version without platform-specific documentation.
Safe Modding Checklist
- Back up saves before changing branches or major mods.
- Use official store pages and original project repositories.
- Match the mod, game build, and store platform.
- Read recent comments for broken dependencies.
- Do not disable security tools or run unknown scripts because an old tutorial says to do so.
