Sandustry Boiler and Ancient Boiler Explained
Clarify the Sandustry Ancient Boiler name, the lack of a confirmed buildable Boiler, and the difference from official thermal machines.
There is no buildable machine named Boiler in the current official building index. Players using “Ancient Boiler” appear to mean a prebuilt world or puzzle area, not a researched factory machine with a confirmed input-output recipe.
Is There a Buildable Boiler?
As of August 16, 2026, the Thermal building list includes Steam Dryer, Condenser, Snowmaker, Smelter, Thermal Buffer, Burner Belt, and Pyro Dispenser. It does not include Boiler.
If you are looking for a machine that creates Steam, remember that Steam is a material state produced by heating Water or Snow. Current documentation does not require a buildable Boiler for that reaction.
What Is the Ancient Boiler?
During the 2025 Demo, developer Lantto used the lowercase word “boiler” for a region that players were not allowed to build inside, preventing them from bypassing its puzzle. This supports the existence of a boiler-like puzzle space in the Demo, but it does not establish Ancient Boiler as the current formal name or prove that the Early Access version uses the same puzzle.
A 2026 player discussion also uses the term “ancient boiler,” but the reported behavior was marked as a bug and stopped after restarting. That is not reliable evidence for a permanent Water duplication recipe or machine UI.
Boiler vs Thermal Buildings
Use the actual building name shown in your research or construction menu:
- Steam Dryer and Condenser handle documented thermal or phase-change roles.
- Smelter processes materials such as Copper.
- Pyro Dispenser is a separate object and is not proven to be a Boiler component.
- Lumling is a creature and renewable Water source, not a Boiler module.
What You Can Safely Rely On
The material reaction is real:
Water or Snow + heat → Steam → condensation/rain → Water
Do not rewrite that world-physics process as a fixed “Water in, Steam out” Boiler recipe without current screenshots and repeatable testing.
