How to Break Crackstone in Sandustry
The current Early Access rule for breaking Crackstone, including valid excavation tools and outdated Rocket Launcher-only advice.
In current Early Access, the Shovel and standard Gun do not break Crackstone. Other digging or excavation tools can break it, with the Rocket Launcher being the earliest clearly documented research route.
The Current Crackstone Rule
Crackstone is a naturally generated Hard, Solid material. It is not flammable, cannot be wetted, and cannot be fired through a Launcher. Breaking it leaves no collectible material or documented processing byproduct.
The important exception is tool type: the Shovel and Gun are ineffective, while other digging or excavation tools can damage it.
Rocket Launcher: First Documented Route
The current work-in-progress research table lists the Rocket Launcher at Tier 4 for 2,000 Gold. That number is the research unlock cost, not the construction cost of the weapon or its ammunition.
The Rocket Launcher is a standard early answer, but it is not the only valid tool in the current rules.

Why Old Demo Advice Is Wrong
Demo-era pages often say only explosive damage works, or refer to a “Guns 2” unlock costing 3,000 Gold. Those statements belong to an older research tree. Do not spend extra time looking for an obsolete unlock name.
Quick Troubleshooting
- Confirm you are targeting Crackstone rather than another hard material.
- Stop testing with the Shovel or standard Gun.
- Use the Rocket Launcher or a later excavation tool.
- Expect no material drop after the Crackstone is destroyed.
